STEP ONE: CONSULTATION

Let's chat! Whether it's on the phone, over Zoom or in person with coffee, we need to get together to discuss things the session. First off, I want to hear all about your dog. I want to know how special they are, what's their favorite treat, are they lazy or crazy, do they fetch, do they have a 'trigger' word to elicit the perfect head tilt, etc. I want to know all the details because that will help me connect with them as much as possible in the small amount of time we'll have together. Second, we'll talk about the nitty-gritty stuff like ideal location, date, time, weather, etc.

Hey friends, I’m participating in a 6-month challenge-based photography course, Emerge, this year with @unleashed.ed! This means May-October I have 12 themed photo challenges to complete.

The first challenge is “Framed” and requires me to photograph a dog using composition to frame and bring attention to them🖼️

I’ll be shooting this weekend in the Stockade District and need a few dog models! These super special sessions cost $100 and I will share 3 high-resolution digital images with you. These will be full sessions with a variety of shots taken however the focus will be on capturing an image for the competition.

Confession: photographing my own dogs is HARD.

It’s my own fault, of course. I didn’t train them to pose, get up on objects or look at me. They’re both highly treat-motivated so that’s a little helpful, but Sadie (pictured) usually looks like an ASPCA poster dog and Dexter loses all sense of composure at the sight of a mere morsel of food.

Most of the photos I took this afternoon were utter garbage, but I think I managed to get a couple decent ones…despite Sadie’s best efforts to avoid eye contact (as pictured) or look like an abused animal🙃

I guess, in a way, it’s good practice for me. The best part though is that Sadie had a blast being out in the woods. And she got paid her modeling fee in peanut butter🥜

@tails_of_the_world is a collaborative project from pet photographers all around the globe. We are united in our mission to make a difference for animals in need by raising money with photography. To date, our annual books have raised over $170,000 and featured over 2000 dogs.

This year, I have been selected as the contributing photographer for our area! This means that I'll be showcasing the charm of our local community, fundraising for dogs in need and featuring YOUR dog's beautiful image in a coffee table book sold to other dog lovers around the world. Not too big, not too small, juuuuuuust right!

One key factor in deciding which artwork to purchase is determining the size of the portrait. If the print is too small for the space, you lose the impact of the image. If it’s too big, it may not fit or the image overwhelms the look of the room. Finding balance is critical to creating great ambience.

I am so incredibly happy to share that I’ve been accepted as the area contributing photographer to the global fundraising project, @tails_of_the_world!!! Eeeehhhh!!!

Tails of the World is an international group of professional pet photographers, celebrating local dogs and fundraising for animal rescue. The annual book is a collection of canine images from across the globe with each respective photographer choosing a rescue to benefit in addition to the Tails of the World organization’s rescue of choice. This year, TOTW has picked @geelonganimalwelfaresociety.

I’ve chosen @mrmoproject as my rescue🐾

I’ll be a busy little beaver working behind the scenes to get this up and running soon, but wanted to share the good news.

FRED ❄️ Forget Me Not Session

Loving a dog is bittersweet. It’s pure and unconditional, but oh so brief. If only it could last our lifetime.

Fred’s family recently received an unhappy diagnosis so they brought him along on a weekend getaway to Lake Placid. I’m sure their time together was full of head scratches, warm snuggles and whispered words of affection in his perfect little velvet ears. I know how loved this sweet boy is❤️

Cass is the absolute sweetest girl! Very well-behaved in the studio, happily shared her squeak toy with me and dished out kisses. She would make a great lifelong companion for an active person or family. She is currently in foster care with @outofthepitsrescue❤️

Say hellooooooooo to Elsa, Penelope June, Porkchop, Finley, Diesel + Rahvyn! These sweet kiddos were the winners of the Gallery Wall Contest fundraiser for @outofthepitsrescue held in September. They each won a full session with yours truly and one image from each session was chosen to be printed as a 24x36 canvas gallery wrap print and hung at @muttzdoglounge for all to admire😍

While their final image is being kept a secret until the Gallery Reveal Event on November 16th, I wanted to share a sneak peek from their sessions because this cuteness needs to be public!
